HemaDrop: A Novel Elemental Composition Technology for Microliter-size Blood Droplets via Solid State Technique

My most significant project regards low-volume blood diagnostics. Current blood tests mandate 10mL of blood and days for accurate results. Since such tests are the liquid state, there are many intermediary steps with the gold standard and thus make it inefficient. My research involves the development of a novel “hyper-hydrophilic” coating that solidified 5 microliters of blood into homogeneous thin solid films. Such thin films can be analyzed using a vast array of solid-state techniques to determine elemental and molecular composition simply within minutes.
